If you insert a non Inventor component in to an Inventor assembly you have the choice of whether to import and translate the part or to keep it as a linked reference. If kept as an AnyCAD reference part any updates to the external original component will update in the assembly. There is not an Inventor component file created, the referenced part exists in the assembly only.
Something to be aware of with this, however, is that as a reference component there is no option to suppress.
Where a level of detail of the assembly is used in a higher level assembly the referenced component will display. If you want to exclude the referenced part you can’t with level of detail.
There are a few workarounds to this:
- If the part does not need to be linked to the original then you can break the link. This will translate the component to an Inventor component.
- You can toggle the visibility of the referenced component and use a design view instead of, or in conjunction with, a level of detail.
- You could create a phantom sub assembly, import the non Inventor component in to that as a reference and place the phantom sub assembly in to the assembly. The phantom sub assembly can then be suppressed which will suppress all of its contents including reference components.
- Or you can create a shrink-wrap derivative of the overall assembly if a simplified version is all that is required.
